Qualifications

We are looking for a skilled paralegal to join the Team. You will be responsible for the coordination of all the details in our family law matters. The successful candidate will be able to provide assistance during all phases of the family law process including drafting pleadings, document filing, legal research, drafting discovery documents, drafting orders and preparing for hearings and trial.

• 5 or more years experience as a family law paralegal

• Duties will include preparation of family law pleadings, marital settlement agreements, financial disclosure forms, discovery, motions, correspondence, providing litigation support, and extensive client contact
• Updating Clio database and Lawyaw with all relevant information and ensuring client file is organized in OneDrive
• Experience with collating documents for filing
• Knowledge of e-filing procedures and able to e-file documents, as well as filing documents by courier via OneLegal platform
• Draft and Mail Subpoenas and Notice to Consumer via CaseMail

• Duties will also include calendaring of relevant court dates and deadlines, tracking and entering your billable time, submitting docs for filing and preparing witness lists and notices

• Knowledge of local court rules, California Rules of Court and California Code of Civil Procedure

• Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF software, above average typing skills, and the ability to learn new software reasonably quickly

Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research and assist in initial case assessments
• Draft initial pleadings, motions and e-filing them with the court
• Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage discovery deadlines and logistics etc.)
• Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
• Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices
• Coordination between the client and attorney for gathering documents and information requests
• Aid attorneys with drafting, and responding to, interrogatories and other discovery requests
• Gather relevant information from a variety of sources
• Scheduling mediations and keeping all parties up to date
• Liaise between trial teams and internal/external third parties
• Coordination with court coordinators regarding setting in person and zoom hearings
• Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences
• Maintain routine communications with clients and attorneys about case status and preparation
• Provide exceptional customer service with compassion and poise

Requirements:

• 5 years of proven working experience as a family law paralegal

• Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices etc.
• Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong writing and communication skills along with attention to detail
• Paralegal Certificate (Preferred), Bachelor’s Degree preferred (not required)
• An understanding of and/or working knowledge of California Family law proceedings
• Ability to assist attorneys with propounding and responding to discovery (interrogatories, requests for admissions, and request for production, subpoenas, and preparing deposition binders) and motions (preparation of any supporting documents and exhibits, and preparing hearing binders)
• Ability to manage trial preparation including coordination of witnesses and travel, trial exhibits, charts, trial notebook, subpoenas, and page lines
• High proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, Lawyaw and Clio
• Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
• Comfortable with remote work environments, use of communications tools like Asana and Slack.
• Must have an energetic and positive attitude, great organizational skills, and work well in a fast-paced environment
