Position Summary:
The Public Relations Strategist Intern will assist in supporting the efforts of the Executive Director and through a variety of activities including media outreach, special projects, traditional and social media placement tracking, research on appropriate media contacts and editorial calendars, photography and content development for the Utopia Spa & Global Wellness social media channels and various administrative tasks.
We’re looking for a true self-starter who is comfortable in a cross-functional environment of working autonomously and with a team.
Time Commitment:
Approximately 10-15 hours/week (depending upon projects), minimum of 1 term (3 months) commitment multiple terms preferred. Working hours can be both on-site and from home.
Essential duties, responsibilities, and projects:
- Work with Executive Director and PR Team to help execute programs for a wide range of projects
- Research appropriate media contacts and editorial calendars
- Participate in the development of communications campaigns featuring multimedia content
- Brainstorm and create compelling content for the Spa Utopia/The Utopia Living Brand’s external audiences
- Craft media materials, including media lists, pitch letters, fact sheets, and press releases
- Help execute media outreach
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a College program or recent graduate in, Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, English, or related field preferred.
- Familiarity with AP Style writing
- Experience with programs including Keynote, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
- Strong work ethic demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Solid process, analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with media tracking software and social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram preferred
- Photography experience preferred
- Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Works independently with the ability to multi-task while having excellent attention to detail.
Standard Intern Requirements:
- Daily text/email updates the 1st week (on working days)
- Daily updates via email after the 1st week (on working days) along with weekly email report updates.
- Our internships are primarily (100%) virtual with the exception of weekly or occasional meetings, special projects, marketing & sales meetings, and company events for local interns
- Weekly virtual meetings
- Interns are 100% responsible for calling in at their agreed-upon start time for their scheduled workdays. Calling in is considered showing up for work, not checking in is considered not showing up for work.
Evaluations & Coaching:
There will be informal evaluations throughout the term as well as one final evaluation at the end of the program intended to provide business coaching, feedback, and professional development.
