Overview of Position
The Director, Financial Reporting is responsible for all aspects of the Financial Reporting close process for the Global Lifestyle segment, the management of all accounting and financial reporting matters under US GAAP and maintaining strong internal controls in these areas across the Global Lifestyle segment. This individual will foster and drive an environment of continuous improvement to include the development of new capabilities, the evaluation and implementation of new tools and efforts to create scalability.

What will be my responsibilities for this position?
Ensure accurate, timely and high-quality submission of US GAAP internal and external reporting across the Global Lifestyle segment.
Manage all aspects of the quarterly/annual financial statement close process for the Global Lifestyle segment. Coordinate with Global Lifestyle line of business accounting teams, Corporate and cross-functional areas, plan closing activities and ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
Coordinate, review and consolidate all Global Lifestyle quarterly Financial Reporting deliverables, including Balance Sheet and Income Statement analytical review packages and support for Assurant’s consolidated financial statements (i.e., footnotes, roll-forwards, disclosures, etc.)
Ensure Global Lifestyle’s quarterly results are accurate and in accordance with US GAAP and Assurant policies.
Partner with Finance to review and understand Global Lifestyle’s key business drivers on a quarterly basis.
Perform annual intangible impairment analysis for the Global Lifestyle Segment.
Enhance existing processes and controls within the Financial Reporting function to further strengthen reporting accuracy, efficiency, and clarity.
Manage Global Lifestyle’s US GAAP internal and external audits, ensuring progress is being made, issues are raised, and remediation actions are completed in order to strengthen internal controls.
Ensure Global Lifestyle accounts are reconciled in accordance with Assurant’s policy.
Support efforts to improve the close process for Global Lifestyle and share best practices across teams.
Ensure accounting and reporting matters are accounted for in accordance with US GAAP and adhere to Assurant’s accounting policies.
Provide line of business accounting teams with US GAAP guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters, including issues, new/existing client contracts, M&A transactions, etc. and liase with Accounting Policy as needed.
Work with business partners to implement a formal process for identifying and reviewing client contracts prior to execution.
Work with accounting teams to gain an understanding of client contracts and evaluate key accounting implications.
Perform technical accounting research, draft and/or review accounting memos consistent with US GAAP and Assurant’s accounting policies for significant accounting issues and contracts.
Partner with the line of business accounting and Accounting Policy teams as needed to resolve issues and finalize deal reviews.
Provide support for global accounting initiatives and special projects.
Support the GFS project (migration to a Global ERP), provide Global Lifestyle accounting perspective and participate in key workstreams for Global Lifestyle to ensure the project is progressing as planned and key stakeholders are engaged.
Support the accounting and integration process for numerous M&A transactions, domestically and internationally.
Support transformation efforts in Global Lifestyle, including identifying higher risk manual processes and make recommendations for process improvements, develop plan/framework with business partners and work on resolutions with Global Lifestyle teams.
Support integration efforts as part of connecting accounting teams globally to develop consistent accounting application, improve process flows and share best practices worldwide.
Manage the Global Lifestyle Segment Financial Reporting team and partner with business and other key stakeholders effectively.
Manage the Segment Reporting team and provide development and coaching for direct reports. Employ strategies to attract and retain talent in the teams.
Evaluate the Global Lifestyle accounting teams and organizational structure, assess gaps and other developmental opportunities considering both current and future needs.
Upskilling talent via trainings and rotation, in order to build bench strength in the team.
Continue to build foundation of leadership and trust with Global Lifestyle Accounting and Finance.

What are the requirements needed for this position?
Education:
College degree in accounting, plus CPA, chartered accountant or equivalent designation required:
CPA / ACA / ACCA / CIMA
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in an Accounting/Finance leadership role
Public accounting experience
Effectively managing teams remotely
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong US GAAP knowledge including knowledge of insurance accounting principles and revenue recognition standard
Strong analytical and problem-solving skillset
Solid understanding and experience with internal control frameworks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Experience in preparing consolidated financial statements
Experience in coordinating audit processes
Comfortable working with senior stakeholders
Ability to manage numerous deadlines and prioritize workload accordingly
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and overcome challenges
Comfortable with being a change agent as the organization continues to transform
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Experience in M&A transactions
Experience with ERP systems and migrations (Oracle preferred)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Proven experience in developing and improving processes and controls
Prior experiences as controller and senior finance executive in a publicly traded company
Experience leading large teams and assessing and developing talent
