Accountant – Assurant – Remote Part Time

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant!

This Accountant position in Assurant’s Reinsurance Solutions group combines accounting and data management skills to provide accurate and timely client cession statements. You will work directly with internal account executives and external client contacts to make appropriate business decisions and achieve departmental goals. This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented individual capable of managing tight deadlines.

What will be my responsibilities in this role?

• Prepare and process monthly and quarterly journal entries

• Support the monthly and quarter end reinsurance close/cession process including the calculation of cessions and profit share accruals as well as the production of cession statements.

• Verify and analyze information on the cession statements and client reports for errors and adverse trends

• Prepare account reconciliations and perform follow up activities for pending items

• Participate in the preparation and distribution of financial reports and analysis

• Adhere to SOX Control requirements

• Prepare schedules (Trust/LOC, Schedule F) for quarterly reviews and year-end audit for internal and external auditors

• Review reinsurance and retro contracts as needed to ensure reporting accuracies.

• Prepare wires and check requests for reinsurance / profit share settlements.

• Perform system coding changes as requested by Marketing

What are the requirements needed for this role?

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field

• 2+ years general accounting or reinsurance experience

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

• Demonstrate strong analytical and researching skills

• Detail oriented and able to work independently

• Able to multi-task and set priorities to meet deadlines

• Team-oriented and able to adapt to a flexible work environment

• Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with data systems teams

• Able to switch from complex to routine tasks when required.

• Able to work overtime as needed, particularly during the quarter end close process.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

• CPA certification a plus but not required

• Experience working with major database platforms, such as Microsoft SQL

• Experience in the insurance industry, particularly knowledge of captive reinsurance
